Guna, Madhya Pradesh (ANI): Any amount of strides and laurels that India earns in the field of IT, technology and space come to a naught when bizarre cases of child marriage and kangaroo courts imparting justice still happen with impunity. Infamous for long as the land of snake charmers, such incidents only lend credence to the illiteracy and backwardness prevalent even in the 21st century in remote villages and interiors of India.
In a shocking incident, a 5-year-old girl allegedly became a victim of child marriage after the village Panchayat ordered her parents to marry the girl child with an 8-year-old boy as punishment for their earlier misdeed in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh. Reportedly, the Panchayat gave this cruel verdict for their earlier misdeed in which they had accidentally killed a calf of their village. As ordered by the Panchayat, the family also gave a feast to the entire village as a mark of their repentance. Police officials said that a probe is underway and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
