Agartala (IANS): Ruling CPI-M and the opposition parties on Monday unequivocally flayed BJP President Amit Shah and said he lied and slandered his opponents in his speeches during his two-day Tripura visit.
Challenging Shah’s contention that tribals are in much better condition in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra as compared to Tripura, CPI-M central committee member Gautam Das said the Supreme Court should set up a committee of experts to study the socio-economic conditions of tribals in Tripura and these BJP-governed states.
“… Tripura has become a model state in India in the uplift of the minority tribals,” the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader told media here.
Reeling out the state’s achievements on various counts, he said the Left-ruled Tripura was leading among northeastern states in per capita income, roads network, and rural development.
“Shah’s statement that some central projects implemented in Tripura have been sanctioned by the Modi government is untrue. The projects related to the railways, border ‘haats’ (markets), power, and infrastructure were actually sanctioned by the previous United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre,” he added.
Das alleged that the BJP chief not only blatantly lied and maligned the state’s performance but also did not talk of the Centre’s promise of providing two crore government jobs every year. It may be recalled that the Modi led central government had promised employment generation as a key point in all its political manifestos starting from 2014 Lok Sabha elections but has been slow to deliver on it and at times even quiet about the dismal employment status in the country as a whole.
The opposition Congress held a separate media conference and said that the BJP President during his visit to Tripura on Saturday and Sunday lied totally and indulged in a slanderous campaign.
“The BJP will not get a single seat in the next year’s assembly polls. Some so-called leaders who cheated the state’s people have joined the BJP,” state Congress President Birajit Sinha said.
Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman said Shah indulged in slandering leaders of other parties, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Now trying to saffronise and spread hatred in North-East.
