The Maharajah, it seems has been in the limelight recently for all the wrong reasons. From the cabinet nod on disinvestment in Air India to getting high on “Ganja” doesnt limit the national carrier’s woes.
A cabin crew member of Air India has been arrested by customs officers for allegedly trying to smuggle narcotic by hiding it in a meal service cart of a flight.
The officers seized nearly two kilograms of ganja from the cart of the Air India flight from Chennai on July 19, according to a release issued by the customs department today.
A detailed investigation was carried out and a member of the cabin crew was arrested, it said.
It’s not the first time that such cases of airlines employees involved in smuggling forbidden contraband have come to light. Earlier in May, 20 kg of heroin was recovered from a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight at Heathrow Airport in London.
As per a PIA spokesperson, investigations were launched to identify suspects within the airline and also suspects in Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The spokesperson suggested that a drug trafficking ring could be involved in using PIA aircraft to smuggle drugs, according to the BBC.
Hope the Indian Investigative agencies take a cue and get to the bottom of this incident as it involves national prestige and gets a bad name for the country on an international level.
